Varadkar Rules Out New Toll Or Congestion Charges
Minister for Transport Leo Varadkar has said no new road tolls or congestion charges will be introduced, "during the lifetime of this government".
According to reports, Mr Varadkar has said that public transport would need to improve significantly before new fiscal incentives could be used to force motorists out of their cars.
It follows the publication of the Department of Transport paper 'Climate Change Mitigation', which reveals that Ireland has the second highest car usage among EU member states.

€43m will be spent this year to make it safer and easier to walk and cycle around the greater Dublin area, Minister for Transport Leo Varadkar. One of the projects will see an extension of the Dublin Bikes scheme from Heuston Station to the O2 and Docklands.

€23m Secured For 121 Sustainable Transport Projects In Greater Dublin Area
Funding of €23 million has been secured for sustainable transport projects in the Greater Dublin Area (GDA). The Minister for Transport, Tourism and Sport, Paschal Donohoe, announced the funding, which is being provided by the National Transport Authority under the Sustainable Transport Measures Grants (STMG) Programme for 2016.
