20,000 Respond To Garda Recruitment Campaign

Minister for Justice, Equality and Defence Mr Alan Shatter has welcomed the response to the Garda Recruitment Campaign.

He commented on developments to date and reminded potential applicants that the closing date for receipt of applications is midnight on the 9 January 2014.

Minister Shatter said: "I am greatly encouraged by the positive response to the Garda Recruitment Campaign which commenced in December 2013. This is the first recruitment campaign to An Garda Síochána since 2009 and it is recognised by all as being a welcome and important development. To date, approximately 20,000 applications have been received by the Public Appointments Service (PAS) through their website www.publicjobs.ie.

"I would like to remind potential applicants that the closing date for receipt of applications is midnight on the 9 January 2014 (next Thursday), and I would strongly encourage all those interested in joining the Garda force to submit their application by that date if they haven't already done so."

100 New Recruits To Enter Garda College
One hundred new recruits are to enter Garda College, the Minister for Justice and Equity Frances Fitzgerald has announced. Training will commence in September this year at the Templemore facility, and marks the first new garda recruits to be recruited in five years.

Call For Garda Civilian Recruitment To Be Expanded
A civilian recruitment programme by An Garda Síochána should be expanded to free up gardaí for community duties, Fianna Fáil's Frank O'Rourke has said. Councillor O'Rourke said that sustained cuts to garda resources have left many gardaí, who should be on the beat, stuck in garda stations filling out paper work.

First Garda Recruitment In Five Years To Start
The first Garda recruitment in five years is to begin tomorrow (Friday 13 December), Minister for Justice Alan Shatter has confirmed. The first batch of new recruits will subsequently begin their training in July 2014.
