Investigation Launches Into Death Of 3-Year-Old In Lift Shaft
An investigation has been launched by the Health and Safety Authority following the death of a three-year-old boy in Galway city centre on Monday afternoon.
The child, named as Solomon Soremekun, died yesterday after he fell into the lift shaft at the Hynes Building on St Augustine Street.
HSE inspectors are continuing to examine the scene and the building remains closed to the public.
It is understood that it is trying to be established how the child fell in the lift shaft of the three-storey building.
A post-mortem of Solomon is due to be carried out today at Galway Iniversity Hospital.

ICTU Anticipate 100,000 To Attend Debt Rallies
ICTU have said they hope to attract up to 100,00 people to nationwide demonstrations on Saturday 9 February in pursuit of a deal to lift Ireland's debt burden. Rallies in Dublin, Cork, Limerick, Galway, Sligo and Waterford have been organised by the trade union, who have invited other groups in the community and voluntary sector to take part.

An independent inspection is to be conducted on the lift in which a three-year-old died in last week. Solomon Soremekun died from crush injuries he sustained in the lift shaft of a city centre building. The Health and Safety Authority (HSA) will facilitate the inspection, which will be carried out by an engineer engaged by the family.
