Fitness-To-Practice Inquiry For Doctor Following Patient's Death

A doctor is facing a fitness to practice inquiry after a patient died the day after seeing him.

The doctor, referred to as 'Dr A', is facing 11 allegations of professional misconduct. The Medical Council inquiry relates to the death of 20-year-old Vicki Core.

It is understood that Dr A diagnosed the Tallaght woman with gastric flu, prescribing Motilium.

Vicki Core later collapsed at her home and was taken to Tallaght Hospital. She suffered a cardiac arrest and died the following day, July 01, 2007.

A subsequent post-mortem ruled she had died of community-acquired pneumonia.

Dr A is also accused of making additions to his medical record after becoming aware of Ms Core's death.

The inquiry began today.
