Protests Held Over Jailing Of 79-Year-Old Woman
A protest has been held at the Department of Justice over the jailing of a 79-year-old woman for defy a court order in relation to a charge of trespass at Shannon Airport.
The Irish Anti-War Movement (IAWM) organised the protest against the sentence given to Margaretta D'Arcy, who they claim suffers from both Parkinson's Disease and cancer.
D'Arcy was given a three-month sentence for her involvement in anti-war protests held at Shannon Airport. A court order was issued that with Ms D'Arcy agreement would have suspended her sentence, however she refused to sign and was sent to Limerick Prison.
Another protest is planned to be held at Limerick Prison.

Suspect Released Following Drugs Raid
Heroin, cannabis and amphetamine worth an estimated €40,000 has been seized by gardaí during a search of a house in Thurles. Two arrests were made during the search, a woman in her 20s, who has since been released, and a man in his 30s, who remains in custody.

A Latvian man has been given an 18-month suspended sentence and fined €300 after advertising his illegally held pistols in a newspaper. Pavels Samosjuks, who is living in Swords, placed an advert to sell his blank firing pistols with a Russian language newspaper that circulates in Ireland.

Terminally Ill Man Given 18 Month Sentence For Abusing Daughters
A 74-year-old terminally ill man who sexually abused five of his daughters throughout their childhood has been jailed for 18 months. The man pleaded guilty to 16 sample counts of rape, indecent assault and sexual assault between 1977 and 1990 in a number of locations around Galway.

Farmer Given Life Sentence For Murder Of Brother
A 63-year-old Co Wicklow farmer, suffering from Parkinson’s disease, has been given a life sentence for the murder of his 66-year-old brother. It is believed they were arguing over their others burial wishes when Cecil Tomkins shot his brother Walter in the hallway of the house they shared.
