Report Due On 2011 Cork Airport Plane Crash

The final report of an investigation into a plane crash at Cork Airport that killed six people is to be published today.

The 19-seater Metroliner aircraft was arriving at Cork airport from Belfast on the morning of 10 February, 2011, when it crashed in dense fog.

The plane was carrying ten passengers and two crew on the morning of the crash. It had previously made two attempts to land at the airport, which was covered in a thick fog.

It is understood that at 30m to the ground the pilot had tried to abandon the third attempt to land but the aeroplane's right wing touched the runway, flipping to the plane on to its roof.

Two crew and four passengers died in the crash.

While details of how the crash happened are known, the report is expected to focus on why.
