Lufthansa Staff Appeal To Government

The Government has been asked to help protect the viability of the Lufthansa plant in Rathcoole, Co Dublin.

A small group of the 400 workers, due to lose their jobs in the coming weeks, held a protest outside Leinster House before handing a letter in to the Department of Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation.

The have appealed to Minister Burton to "step in and protect the viability of this plant as an engine overhaul facility".

"If we lose the capability to overhaul aircraft engines we lose the capability to create employment in this sector of the industry," they said in the letter, according to the Irish Times.

Last month, Lufthansa Technik confirmed it was to close its aircraft engine overhaul plant in south county Dublin with the loss of 411 jobs. Some 100 employees are being laid off tomorrow with the remainder losing their jobs on February 14th.
