Heavy rain and high tides have caused severe flooding in Cork, Limerick, Kerry, Clare and Waterford.
Hundreds of residents and businesses have been effected by the flooding.
Earlier today, Met Eireann issued an Orange weather warning and it is expected to remain in place until this evening.
Dozens of firms are flooded and the River Lee has burst its banks. Many streets are also impassable.
Government officials are expected to meet to discuss immediate steps to be taken.
Sinn Féin's EU candidate for Ireland South, Liadh Ní Riada, said: "The is the second time since the start of the year that we have seen extensive damage caused to communities, homes and businesses due to storms and flooding.
"The people of Cork, Limerick, Kerry, Clare and Waterford are experiencing a great deal of disruption and hardship today.
"The government must act swiftly in ensuring that emergency funding is released immediately in order to ensure that the affected areas receive the aid that is now badly needed.
"Furthermore, the government must ensure that the money allocated to emergency funding is sufficient to deal with the size of the problem."
