AGSI Question The Ability Of GSOC Chairman

The chairman of the Garda Síochána Ombudsman Commission (GSOC) Simon O'Brien has been urged to consider his position, in light of his inaction after he suspected the agency had been electronically bugged.

The Association of Garda Sergeants and Inspectors (AGSI) have said that for the GSOC to have not reported the suspicions to Gardaí - adding that if garda involvement had also been suspected - they could have made a report to the Minister for Justice, Alan Shatter.

The GSOC were accused of casting aspersions on the force, casting a slur on its members, according to a report by RTÉ.

AGSI general secretary John Redmond is understood to have alleged that the GSOC has no regard for the law, and there is now a question mark over the ability of Simon O'Brien and his ability to carry out his job.

The Garda Representative Association has also called for an independent inquiry into the allegations that the GSOC were electronically bugged.
