€20,000 Awarded Over Rat Phobia

A woman has been awarded €20,000 after it was found she was suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder due to rats and mice at her former workplace.

The Labour Court ruled that Sea and Shore Safety Services Ltd failed to adequately deal with the rodent problem in their Carrickmines premises in 2008 and again in 2010.

The court found that Amanda Byrne, who had a long term phobia of rodents, suffered harassment and a discriminatory dismissal.
