DCC Planners Reject Ormond Hotel Redevelopment Plans
Dublin City Council (DCC) have rejected plans to demolish the Ormond Hotel, made famous as a setting in James Joyce's Ulysses.
A redevelopment plan for the site had been submitted by Monteco Holdings, which sought permission for a 170-bedroom six-storey hotel and bar.
However, council planners have rejected the proposal saying that the plans "monolithic design and unsympathetic proportions" would not fit with the character of the quays.
The James Joyce Centre, an Taisce and the Georgian Society all opposed the redevelopment plans.
