O'Connell Tower Restoration Project Underway

The O'Connell Tower at Glasnevin Cemetery will open to the public for the first time in 40 years.

A €200,000 restoration project is underway with the reconstruction of an internal stairway that was destroyed in a bombing in 1971.

The work is expected to be completed by October.

Construction Of New Children'd Hospital To Start Next Year

A planning permission application for the new National Children's Hospital will be submitted to An Bord Pleanála later this year.

The St James's Hospital site is currently being cleared with construction due to begin in 2015 pending planning permission.

Services are expected to be transferred to the new hospital by 2018.

Post-Mortem On Irish Student Inconclusive

The post-mortem examination of a Co Galway student who died in London has been unable to establish the cause of his death.

The body of 18-year-old Patrick Halpin was found off Leicester Square last Thursday, after he went missing on a night out while on a college visit to London with the DCU Drama Society.

Further test are to be carried out to try to establish the cause of death.

Protection Of Life During Pregnancy Bill Published
The Protection of Life during Pregnancy Bill has been published by the government following approval by the Cabinet. Several significant changes have been made to the outline of the Bill, which was published in April. The Minister for Health will be given the power to stop suspended an institution if deemed to be operating the Act inappropriately.

Shots Fired At House In Drogheda
An investigation has been launched into a shooting incident in Drogheda, Co Louth on Thursday night. According to gardaí some fifteen shots were fired at the house in Knockbrack Close at around 21:30 last night. Two women and five children were in the house at the time, with one of the women being grazed by a bullet.

Man Dies At Kilkeel Factory
A man in his 40s has died after being trapped under machinery at a Co Down production plant. Named this afternoon as Keiran McClean, the victim was initially rushed from the Kilkeel facility to Newry's Daisy Hill Hospital last night.

Parents Have No Services To Turn To If Their Children Are Obese
At the launch of the INDI's (Irish Nutrition & Dietetic Institute) Nourish Children Week in Dublin today, it has been revealed that parents have little or no services to turn to in their community, if their children are overweight or obese.
