BoI Building To Become Cultural And Heritage Centre

Bank of Ireland's landmark College Green building is to handed over to the government for 10 years and turned into a state-run cultural and heritage centre.

The government will convert the building as part of the Department of Arts, Heritage and the Gaeltacht's 'Decade of Centenaries' programme, which launched in 2012.

Refurbishment work is expected to begin once planning permission is granted. Once completed entrance to the new centre is expected to be via the James Gandon-designed entrance on Westmoreland Street, which is currently out of use.

HSE To Facilitate Inspection Of Where Three-Year-Old Died
An independent inspection is to be conducted on the lift in which a three-year-old died in last week. Solomon Soremekun died from crush injuries he sustained in the lift shaft of a city centre building. The Health and Safety Authority (HSA) will facilitate the inspection, which will be carried out by an engineer engaged by the family.

€624,000 Fund To Protect Heritage Buildings
A total of €624,000 is to be invested in upgrading and protecting heritage buildings in Ireland. The funding has been made available under the Structures at Risk Fund 2015. The fund is used to safeguard structures in both private and civic ownership, which are protected under the Planning and Development Act 2000.
