US Bank Scam Targets BoI Customers
A bank account skimming scam originating in the US and targeting Bank of Ireland branches in Ireland has been uncovered after customers noticed unusual transactions on their accounts.
It has been discovered that hundreds of customers at two branches of the bank, one in Graiguenamanagh, Co Kilkenny and in Borris, Co Carlow, have been targeted over a three day period in January.
It is understood that BoI branches on Mayo and Roscommon were also hit by the same scam.
The scam saw numerous withdrawals of €146.13 being made and appearing on customers statements as $200 being withdrawn from US ATM machines.
The Bank of Ireland has told customers that any money lost to the scam will be reimbursed, and that gardaí have been informed and an investigation is underway.

The progress report is the eighth public update since the Central Bank initiated its industry-wide Tracker Examination in October 2015.

The Bank of Ireland has belatedly admitted the identities of 10,000 customers have been stolen. The bank confirmed on Monday night that laptop computers holding personal details of 10,000 people were stolen last year. It has only now come forward with the information.

ESB Continuing To Work To Restore Power After Storm Lorenzo
ESB have restored power to some 12,000 homes, farms and businesses, affected by Storm Lorenzo, while work continues to restore power to 3,600 customers still without power. A clean-up operation is underway across the west and northwest following the storm on Thursday. According to reports, substantial flooding was experienced across Donegal.

Eircom Confirms 'Major Issue' Affecting Phone Lines
Eircom has confirmed it is working on a major issue which has left customers unable to use their phone lines. Consumers with ISDN lines have also been affected. Standard fixed line numbers are unaffected. Anyone wanting to report a fault is being asked to go online at support.eircom.net/logafault.
