More Resources Needed To Tackle Alcohol Abuse
The Dáil has been urged to allocate extra resources to local drugs task forces in an effort to implement local alcohol strategies.
Addressing the Dáil, Sinn Féin's spokesperson on Arts, Heritage, Tourism & Sport, Sandra McLellan TD said: "The forthcoming Public Health (Alcohol) Bill must provide adequate funding and resources to Local & Regional Drug Task Forces to implement alcohol strategies.
"A majority of Irish people are concerned about Ireland’s harmful relationship with alcohol and we believe that the government must take action to protect the health and wellbeing of the public.
"Task forces are required to implement local alcohol strategies while their funding continues to be cut. It was cut by a further 3% in the recent budget.
"To expect task forces to tackle the alcohol problem with diminishing resources is totally unacceptable."
