Third Day Of Waterford City Bar Staff Sit-In

Staff at a Waterford City pub have entered the third day of a sit-in protest, following an announcement on Tuesday that the bar was to close with immediate effect.

Staff at the Park Inn were informed by a solicitor on Tuesday morning that the city pub would close.

The bar has been for sale since June 2013 while continuing to trade.

It is understood that an offer of €500,000 was made to buy the bar as a going concern, but this was rejected by the Bank of Ireland, resulting in the immediate closure of the premises and the loss of all jobs.

According to a report by the Irish Independent, the staff are holding their sit-in protest in the hopes that the bank will "backtrack" and retain the jobs.
