UTV Ireland Sign 10-Year Contract With BAI
UTV Ireland, will begin broadcasting in January 2015, after the new subsidiary of Northern Ireland's UTV Media signed a ten year television content provision contract with the Broadcasting Authority of Ireland (BAI).
The new channel will broadcast programming on exclusive license from ITV Studios, which includes British programmes like Coronation Street and Emmerdale.
"We are delighted to sign today’s contract with the BAI and look forward to bringing Irish viewers a fantastic new TV channel in January 2015," John McCann, Group Chief Executive, UTV Media plc said.
Adding: "UTV Ireland will follow UTV’s existing formula of combining high quality news, current affairs, entertainment and drama. Today’s announcement represents a strong vote of confidence by UTV in Irish broadcasting and our investment in the Irish economy."

Good Friday Committee Welcomes UTV Announcement
The Chairman of the Joint Committee on the Implementation of the Good Friday Agreement has welcomed an announcement that UTV is to establish a new all-Ireland channel based in Dublin. The new channel will have an additional newsgathering and reporting presence in Cork, Galway, Waterford and Limerick.

TV Licence Fee To Be Replaced With New Charge
A proposal to replace the TV licence fee with a new public service broadcasting charge has been announced by Minister for Communications, Energy and Natural Resources Pat Rabbitte. The new fee will not exceed the current fee of €160 and is due to come into effect from January 01, 2015.
