Sinn Féin Wants Overhaul Of State Board Appointments
The process behind how members are appointed to State sponsored boards needs to be reviewed, Sinn Féin Deputy Leader Mary Lou McDonald has said.
Speaking today at the launch of Sinn Féin's policy document on Corporate Governance 'Good board/bad board - Transparency, accountability and diversity on State boards', chaired by Sinn Féin Dublin EU Candidate Lynn Boylan, Deputy McDonald said: "In the wake of recent scandals surrounding the appointments and remuneration packages of state sponsored board members one thing is crystal clear; little has changed since Fianna Fáil left office.
"Sinn Féin's policy document on Corporate Governance aims to restore confidence in state sponsored boards across all sectors, including charities in receipt of subsidies from government and donations from the public.
"Sinn Féin is proposing five key recommendations to tackle this. We aim to limit directorships to five per individual, to attain a 40 per cent gender quotas on all boards, to bring equity to remuneration for directors, transparency in appointments and for there to be a timely provision of accounts and regular auditing."
