Minister For Justice To Deliver Penalty Points Report

The Minister for Justice is due to deliver his report on the Gardaí administration of penalty points.

It is understood that Alan Shatters report to the Cabinet will contain a number of recommendations, some of which will require legislation.

The report follows allegations made in 2012 by a garda whistleblower over the processing of penalty points.

The report will be presented by the minister later today.

Govt To Publish Penalty Points Report
A report into allegations that penalty points were cancelled with proper authority is to be published by the government, Minister for Justice Frances Fitzgerald has said. The new allegations are being investigated by both the Garda Ombudsman and the Garda Professional Standards Unit.

Shatter To Review Penalty Points Report
A report from the Garda Commissioner over an investigation into allegations of the quashing of penalty points is to be reviewed by Minister for Justice Alan Shatter. Shatter is understood to be seeking clarification in respect of parts of the report and was awaiting those.

First Annual Report On Penalty Points System Published
The first annual report on the Penalty Points system has been published by Justice Minister, Frances Fitzgerald. The report has been compiled by the Independent Oversight Authority, with Judge Matthew Deery commending the "substantial compliance" found during the review.

Report Calls For Review Of Penalty Points System
Minister for Transport Leo Varadkar has today published new proposals for an increase in penalty points for speeding and the use of a mobile phone while driving. The review proposes a graduated range of penalty points for speeding, where higher penalty points would apply if the vehicle was travelling substantially over the speed limit.

The new CAO points scale which will be used for entry to higher education from 2017 has been launched. The main features of the new scale are: • It maintains the current alignment between the points awarded for achievement at Higher Level and the points awarded for achievement at Ordinary Level.
