Eight Arrested Over Modified Car Rally
Eight people, a woman and seven men, have been arrested in County Clare for participating in an illegal modified car rally.
All eight were charged in connection with the incident and released on bail. They will appear before Ennis District on 23 April 2014.
Gardaí made the arrests in Kilrush after becoming aware of planned and organised events involving drivers of modified cars and launching an operation to target such events.
One event was organised in the north Clare area on the night of 7 March 2014. It commenced on the promenade in Lahinch and was attended by about 70 vehicles. The group made its way to the Cliffs of Moher, continuing on to Doolin and on to Corkscrew Hill in Ballyvaughan, where the main event occurred.
Searches were carried out by Gardaí on the morning of April 2 at two houses in Co Clare. One woman and seven men, all in their teens or twenties, have been detained at Kilrush, Ennistymon, Ennis and Shannon Garda Stations.
