UK State Visit To Start On Tuesday
Tánaiste Eamon Gilmore is to accompany President Higgins and Mrs Sabina Higgins on Ireland's State Visit to the UK this week.
The visit will take place from 8 to 11 April.
It is understood the Tánaiste will participate in the official ceremonial welcome at Windsor Castle and will accompany the President on Tuesday,to Westminster and the State Banquet at Windsor Castle.
On Wednesday, the Tánaiste will meet separately with Foreign Secretary William Hague for discussions on issues of international concern, particularly the situation in Ukraine. The Tánaiste will then join the President for a meeting with Prime Minister David Cameron at 10 Downing Street.
Mr Gilmore will then accompany President Higgins throughout Wednesday evening, Thursday, and Friday at events which will include a Northern Ireland-themed reception hosted by the Queen in Windsor Castle, the 'Céiliúradh' at the Royal Albert Hall and several engagements located outside London, including a reception for members of the Irish community at Coventry's Guildhall.
During the course of the visit, the Tánaiste will also meet with Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg, Secretary of State for Northern Ireland, Theresa Villiers, and Labour Party leader Ed Milliband.

President Higgins To Make First State Visit To UK
President Michael D Higgins will lead the first state visit by an Irish Head of State to the United Kingdom next month. The President will be accompanied by Sabina Higgins as he visits the UK between 08 – 11 April, both going to Windsor Castle as guests of Queen Elizabeth.

It has emerged the Queen of the United Kingdom may visit the Republic of Ireland for the first time since the beginning of her reign. After a meeting between the Prime Minister David Cameron in London and Taoiseach Brian Cowen, plans have surfaced that the Queen's first state visit to Ireland may come before the end of next year.
