Passenger Dies On Board Flight

A passenger that was on board a transatlantic flight that was diverted to Shannon Airport earlier this week, has died.

According to reports, a second passenger is currently recovering in hospital.

Both are believed to have suffered heart attacks.

It is understood the Alitalia flight – scheduled to fly from Rome to New York – was about 100km west of Clare when the crew on board declared an emergency. The flight was subsequently diverted to Shannon where emergency services were on standby.

One of the passengers was pronounced dead at the scene while the second was taken to University Hospital Limerick for treatment.

Airport Staff Back Cost-Cutting Plan

The vote, carried by an almost 70% majority will lead to some 300 redundancies at airports in Dublin, Cork and Shannon. Dolores O'Riordan, the former singer with the Cranberries, has been arrested on suspicion of assaulting a flight attendant. It is understood that police were waiting for Ms O’Riordan when the flight from New York arrived at Shannon Airport at 5am on Monday morning.

Crash Victims' Families Make Way To Phuket
Relatives of the families of the two Derry men on board Sunday's plane crash at Phuket airport, are making their way over to the Thai island today. Aaron Toland, 23, who was was one of five Irish people on board the ill-fated flight, was confirmed dead yesterday. He was travelling with friend Christopher Cooley, also from Londonderry.
