Bomb Found In Stolen Car In Cavan

The investigation into the discovery of a 66 pound fertiliser bomb has found that the car in which the bomb was found had been stolen in Cavan and fitted with false Northern Ireland number plates.

Detectives have uncovered that the black VW Passat wasn't from Northern Ireland as first suggested by its registration plates. Anti-terrorist officers have said that the discovery will open up "new lines of enquiry".

The investigation believes that the bomb had been left in the hotel car park to be collected by another party. It is believed that it was intended for an attack in Northern Ireland.
