Competition To Find Ireland's Best Young Entrepreneurs

A new competition to find Ireland's best young entrepreneurs has been launched by the Taoiseach Enda Kenny and Minister for Jobs Richard Bruton.

The competition is open to anyone aged 30 and under, and winners at county level will be eligible for an investment of €25,000.

The project is part of the Action Plan for Jobs 2014 and is supported by Department of Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation.

Full details of the competition have yet to be announced.

Harney Denies Threatening To Quit
The Health Minister, Mary Harney, has denied reports she threatened to resign over the medical card debacle. Reports on Monday claim Ms Harney threatened to walk out if the highly criticised plans to end the automatic medical-card entitlement from over-70s were scrapped. Speaking in Dublin today, Ms Harney denied the she would take such action.

An Bord Pleanála has approved plans by EirGrid to build an interconnected electricity line between Ireland and Wales. The proposed link will enable power transmission between the two countries from 2012.

€500k Start-Up Fund Announced
Jobs Minister Richard Bruton has launched a new €500,000 fund targeted at stimulating new start-up business activity for graduates. The Enterprise Ireland Competitive Start Fund fund will provide for up to €50,000 in support for each successful applicant.
