NRA Announce Plans for New Motorway Services
Proposals for more than a dozen new motorway service stations have been revealed by the National Roads Authority (NRA).
A number of new facilities have been proposed across the motorway network, aimed at upgrading the transport network and reducing accidents caused by driver fatigue.
The facilities will include parking, toilets, picnic areas and restaurants.
A public consultation will not be launched by the NRA.

Topaz To Create Over 100 New Jobs
A total of 110 new jobs are to be created by fuel retailer Topaz. The service station is to open two new facilities in Dublin and Laois. The stations will be at Clonshaugh in Dublin and at Junction 3 on the Dublin-Cork motorway near Ballacolla in Laois. The stations are expected to be operational by January 2015.

Half of Drivers Stop On Motorway To Use Phone
Half of Irish drivers have broken the highway code by stopping on the motorway to use their phone, according to a survey published on Monday. AA Ireland and the Road Safety Authority (RSA) said they are reminding all road-users that it is breach of the code to stop on the hard-shoulder except in the case of an emergency.

New Bill Proposed To Tackle Rural Crime Gangs
Fianna Fáil has published a new Bill designed to help catch mobile criminal gangs in rural Ireland. The Bill, introduced to the Dáil by Justice spokesperson Niall Collins, will set up CCTV cameras at all major road junctions in order to assist Gardaí in identifying and apprehending criminal gangs using the motorway network.

Motorway tolling companies have been asked to consider a month long pilot scheme exempting hauliers from paying road tolls. The National Roads Authority (NRA) has devised the scheme in an effort to encourage hauliers onto motorways and off local and regional roads.
