Fisherman Rescued From Lobster Buoy After Boat Sinks
A local fishing boat has rescued a fisherman left clinging to a lobster buoy when his boat sank off Tullagh Beach, Co Donegal.
The alarm was raised just before 2pm on Sunday when a man tending sheep some half mile away arrived on the beach to investigate what he thought sounded like someone calling for help.
It is understood that the man and his mother were tending their animals when the man thought he heard a cry for help. Uncertain he drove down to the beach and could just make out some waving from a buoy out in the sea.
Having raised the alarm the man was able to guide a local fishing boat, which was closest at the time, directly to the man. Lough Swilly RNLI lifeboat arrived shortly after along with the Coast Guard helicopter, who airlifted the man to hospital for treatment.
It is understood that the man was in the water for up to an hour. His condition is said to be stable.
