Green Party Launch 'Making Recovery Local' Plan
The Green party's European election candidate has published a 'Six Point Plan for Making Recovery Local', which they say aims to "revitalise main streets" and promote new initiatives to support entrepreneurs and small business.
Launching the proposals candidate Lorraine Higgins said: "A central pillar of my campaign is ensuring that the recovery we are hearing so much about is not just a Dublin-led bubble, but sustainable economic growth that touches every town and village across my constituency of the Midlands-North West.
"I have been travelling around the towns and villages of the Midlands-North West conducting a survey and asking local people and businesses what their issues are, where they feel the solutions lie, and how I can help and represent these issues in Brussels and Strasbourg.
"My Six Point Plan for Making Recovery Local focuses on what needs to be done at European and local level to support urban centres and SMEs. In January 2013, the European Commission issued a European Retail Action Plan to promote the retail sector across Europe. I want to ensure that the needs of retailers in towns and villages in this constituency are fully taken into account in the follow-up and implementation of this plan.
"The Midlands-North West is a constituency of large towns and villages, and the European Union has a vital role to play in supporting our financial recovery. That is why strong representation in Brussels, advocating the cause of the communities across this constituency, and fighting for our own real recovery is so important."
