Off-Duty Garda Foils Attempted Robbery

An off-duty garda officer has foiled an attempted robbery of a shop in Ranelagh in Dublin.

It is understood that the off-duty officers saw two men, with their faces covered, enter a shop on Lower Mount Pleasant Avenue, with one of the men carrying "what appeared to be a firearm".

The officer followed the men in to the shop, confronting them. He struggle with one of the men and was attacked by the second.

Garda say that the two men then ran off, throwing the weapon into bushes of Mount Pleasant Square.

Giving chase the off-duty officers caught and struggled with one of the men, while the other escaped.

The first man was arrested, and a second man was arrested later in a follow up operation.

Off-Duty Garda Attacked With Samurai Sword
A court has heard how an off-duty garda was attacked with a samurai sword as he chased two men who had just robbed a shop. Detective Garda Shane Kelly saw the raiders flee from the scene and chased them in his personal car. When he cornered their vehicle near Lucan one of the raiders used the sword to smash the detective’s windscreen.

Three In Court Following Tipperary Attack
Three of the five men arrested in relation to the shooting and stabbing of two men in Tipperary yesterday are appearing in Roscrea District Court this Thursday morning. The other two men were released without charge and a file will be prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions regarding their detentions.

More than €2 million worth of drugs have been seized by Gardaí in Donaghmede, Dublin. Cannabis resin, cannabis herb and cocaine, worth and estimated €2.1 million were seized as part of an operation targeting the sale and supply of controlled drugs in North Dublin.

Garda Investigate 'Gang Of Men' On Shop Roof
Gardaí are investigating reports that a "gang of males" were spotted on the roof of a shop in Lusk, Dublin. Garda said they received a number of reports on Wednesday night of men on top of the Village Store. Officers arriving at the scene witnessed men climbing down from the building and fleeing in different directions.

Two Arrested Following Supermarket Raid
Two men have been arrested following a raid at a supermarket in the Clarehall area in Dublin last night. At around 10.30pm, two men armed with a knife entered the premises on the Malahide Road and threatened two members of staff, before tying them up and attacking them. The pair then left the scene with a sum of cash.
