Taoiseach Begins Three-Day US Visit
Taoiseach Enda Kenny has begun a three-day visit to the United States.
The Taoiseach will visit Silicon Valley and San Francisco as part of a three-day schedule focused on securing investment and jobs for Ireland and supporting exporting Irish firms and entrepreneurs.
During the visit, the Taoiseach will visit the headquarters of a number of the most significant multi-national companies located in Ireland and supported by IDA Ireland, who between them employ nearly 16,000 people in Ireland as well as meeting potential new investors.
The Taoiseach will also meet the Governor of California Jerry Brown where the key focus will be on strengthening the strong economic, trade, investment and tourism links between Ireland and California.
As part of his programme, Mr Kenney will open the Enterprise Ireland Access Silicon Valley event which aims to assist Irish companies in breaking into the US market and partnering with US firms. He will also meet exporting Irish companies who have secured significant contracts with US partners located in California as well as meeting members of the Irish community and the GAA based in San Francisco.
He will speak at a number of events emphasising the progress made towards economic recovery and Ireland's strengths a location for investment and high-potential start-ups and ambitious entrepreneurs.
Commenting on his visit, the Taoiseach said: "Silicon Valley is a vitally important market for Ireland. Overall, 36,000 people work at US West Coast based firms in Ireland.
"My visit here this week is vital in cementing and reinforcing existing investor relationships as well as building new connections with a view to securing new jobs and investment for Ireland during 2014, the year of jobs."

The Taoiseach Enda Kenny has spoken to BBC and Sky News in advance of Queen Elizabeth’s arrival in Ireland. The Taoiseach discussed the significance of the Queen’s visit, relations between Ireland and Britain, as well as the EU/IMF bailout deal, and the restructuring of the banks.

Taoiseach Begins Visit To Italy
Taoiseach Enda Kenny has arrived in Italy for a two-day official visit, during which he is due to meet with Italian prime minister, Matteo Renzi. Mr Kenny arrived today (Thursday) and is due to meet Renzi in Rome tomorrow. The two are expected to discuss relations between Ireland and Italy, and reinforcing cooperation in a range of areas.

Queen Elizabeth is very keen to pay a Royal visit to Ireland, the Taoiseach has said. Responding to a question in the Dáil, Bertie Ahern said the Queen would "dearly love" to come to the Emerald Isle.

Taoiseach Bertie Ahern has met with South African President Thabo Mbeki in Pretoria this morning on the second day of his visit to the country. Mr Ahern also met with the Deputy President of the country Phumzile Mlambo Ngcuka and attended meeting to encourage Ireland as a tourism destination and to promote further trade links.
