Residents Block Access To Estate In Water Meter Protest

A protest is underway at the Woodgrove estate in Portlaoise as Irish Water workers attempt to fit water meters in the area.

It is understood that a number of residents have blocked access to the estate at Ballfin Road, in a follow up to a protest that began on Wednesday evening.

Irish Water began work on installing meters last August, with a number of protests being held at estates across the country.

According to reports, garda are at the scene in Portlaoise.

Taps Run Dry In Co Clare
Water has been shut off in Tulla and Broadford in Co Clare today and will stay off until 4pm and again tonight from 8pm to 8am. Problems in the Shannon area will also mean that water will be turned off there from 12 noon to 5.00pm and again from 8pm to 8am.
