Govt 'Moving Towards' Homes Inquiry
The government is said to be "moving towards" an inquiry into mother-and-baby homes, Minister for Public Expenditure Brendan Howlin has said.
According to reports the decision to launch an inquiry has not been fully take yet as the government want to make sure that any inquiry is "full in it's scope".
Minister Howlin in reported to have said that once an inquiry begins they don't want to "have to add on things" after the terms of reference have been established.
Minister are expected to receive a report from an inter-departmental group established following the re-discovery of what is said to be a mass grave, containing up to 800 bodies of babies and children, at the site of a former home in Tuam, Co Galway.

Fianna Fáil Senator and Leas Chathoirleach of the Seanad Denis O'Donovan has refuted allegations from the Minister for Finance that Fianna Fáil pulled a stroke in appointing two Senators to the banking inquiry committee. Senator O'Donovan chaired the Committee on Selection, which nominated Senators Marc Mac Sharry and Seán Barrett.

Service Station Shooting Now Murder Investigation
The investigation into a shooting incident a CO Mayo service station has been upgraded to a murder inquiry following the death of the victim on Thursday night. Owen Maughan (29) was shoot a number of times in an attack at a service station in Castlebar on Thursday afternoon. He was taken to Mayo General Hospital but died from his injuries.

Gardaí And HSE To Produce Reports On Roma Children Removals
Reports on the cases of two children removed from Roma families are to be produced by the gardaí and the Health Services Executive for the Minister for Justice and Minister for Children. Minister for Children Frances Fitzgerald said the reports would then be referred to Emily Logan, the Ombudsman for Children.

HSE Seeks Legal Advice Over Elderly Death
The Health Service Executive is to seek legal advice after the publication of a report into the death of an elderly woman at a geriatric psychiatric hospital in Co Cork in June 2006. Hannah Comber, 75, from Ballyhea, Charleville, choked after getting caught in a restraining belt on a chair at Heatherside Hospital in north Cork.
