€8m Funding Secured For Community And Voluntary Groups

Funding of just over €8 million has been secured for the country's community and voluntary sectors.

A total of €8.015m will be shared between 55 national community and voluntary organisations, over the next two years and is being provided as part of a new scheme to support national organisations within the sector.

Announcing the funding, Minister for the Environment, Community & Local Government Minister Hogan said: "I am particularly delighted to announce today this substantial funding to 55 national Community & Voluntary organisations. This Government recognises the value of the great work carried out by such national voluntary organisations. The work of these organisations is vital to the State and complements State endeavours in the community area.

"The Government will invest approx. €8m over the next two years under this Scheme and I am confident that the many people whose lives are improved as a result of the work carried out by these groups will see the benefit of this investment."

Gardaí have issued a warning over a new telephone scam known as 'Vishing'. 'Vishing' involves criminals using a telephone to deceive people into providing financial information. Members of the public would receive a telephone call to their landline from an individual claiming to be a 'Security Manager' from a well-known business.

Almost €7m Secured For Irish Community In Britain
Almost €7 million funding has been secured to support the Irish community in Britain. The Minister of State for the Diaspora, Jimmy Deenihan, has announced details of €6.73 million in funding, which will be used for grants for organisations through the Emigrant Support Programme (ESP), operated by the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade.

INOU Calls For No Further Social Welfare Cuts
The Irish National Organisation for the Unemployed (INOU) is calling on the Government not to slash social welfare any further in December’s budget. Launching their pre-Budget Submission this morning the group called for no further cuts to voluntary or community organisations providing vital assistance to those in need.

€2.2m Pledged To Implement National Drugs Strategy
Government has committed some €2.28 million to 12 strategic health initiatives to address priorities set out in the National Drugs Strategy. Each project aimed at tackling drug and alcohol misuse throughout the country will be awarded €190,000 this month, with funding continuing to June 2022.
