New Drivers To Display 'N' Plates For Two Years
New drivers who are issued their first licence after August 01, will have to display 'N' plates for two years.
The new novice plates are part of a number of new measures being introduced aimed at improving safety on the roads.
Drivers not displaying the new 'N' plates and the more common 'L' plates will face a €60 fine. Learner drivers caught driving unaccompanied will also face a €60 fine.
Novice drivers will also have lower limit drink driving level and a penalty point limit of 6 points, half of the standard 12.
The measures come as part of the Road Traffic (No.2) Act 2013 and come into effect next month.
