Cannabis-Based Medicine Regulations To Be Complete 'Within The Week'

The Minister of State for Health, Alex White, could sign off on the use of cannabis-based medicines in Ireland by the end of next week.

The draft Misuse of Drugs (Amendment) Regulations would allow for medicines containing extracts from the leaf and flower of cannabis plants to be prescribed to patients with mulitple sclerosis. The medication would be used to relieve muscle spasms.

It is understood that there are just a few remaining legal issues to be "ironed out" but Minister White is 'hopeful" the regulations will be complete, "within the next week".
