DCC Commit TO Local Property Tax Reductions
The news that Dublin City Council has made a commitment to reducing the Local Property Tax has been welcomed by Sinn Féin.
The council announced that it would seek to reduce the tax by 15%.
Claiming that the tax is putting an "unjust" tax burden on moddle and low-income families, Sinn Féin Councillor Daithí Doolan said: "Our motion commits Dublin City Council to supporting the maximum cut of 15% for 2015. This will be putting money back into people’s pockets which will benefit the local economy.
"Consecutive governments have slashed funding for local government. This is unacceptable. The property tax cannot become another excuse for government to starve Dublin City Council of essential funding. We will be working with councillors from all parties here on City Council and on the other three Dublin local authorities to defend funding for local government. We are also calling on Dublin TDs to fight against any further cuts to local authorities’ grants.
"I firmly believe we can reduce the property tax and protect jobs and local services. It will require commitment and hard work but Sinn Féin is up for that challenge."
