National Consumer Agency Highlights Home Insurance Savings

Home owners in Ireland could potentially save an average of €264 on home insurance by researching different quotes before buying, according to the National Consumer Agency.

The Agency has published its latest home insurance comparison survey, which highlights the potential savings on various properties across Ireland.

Potential savings of up to €421 were made on a three-bedroom bungalow in Midleton, County Cork. The cheapest quote provided was for €279 while the most expensive quote was €700.

The biggest percentage difference in quotes provided, 162%, was for a three-bedroom semi-detached house in Newbridge, County Kildare. The cheapest quote was €237 and the most expensive quote was €622.

"It is important to make sure that you do not insure your home for too much or too little," the NCA said.

"If your home is insured for too little, your policy might not pay out enough for the full cost of repairing or rebuilding it if is damaged or destroyed. If it is insured for too much, your premium will be higher than necessary and you will not get any extra benefit if you have to claim."
