Public Information Day To Be Held On Cork Flood Prevention Scheme
A public information day is to held today on the Lower Lee Flood Relief Scheme in Cork City, with the public encouraged to see the plans and give their opinions.
Representatives of the Office of Public Works’ Design Team and Environmental Consultants will be in attandance at Cork City Hall between 14:00 and 19:00 on Tuesday 29 July, where they will answer any questions the public may have about the proposed flood prevention measures.
Minister for Europe and Fine Gael TD for Cork North Central, Dara Murphy said: "Unfortunately over the last decade, the River Lee has been the source of much heartbreak for the people of Cork as flood after flood left homes and businesses damaged, at great financial cost.
"This Flood Relief Scheme is a crucial measure in ensuring that such damage is avoided in the future. The Scheme will cover the area from Inniscarra Dam to downstream of Cork City on the River Lee, and it will also include proposals for Blackpool and Ballyvolane which are affected by tributaries of the River Lee. Following this public consultation, it is expected that the detailed design phase will commence in the second quarter of 2015, with the procurement of civil works contractor to begin towards the end of 2015.
"If you are unable to attend the public information day tomorrow, the display will remain available for viewing and feedback until Tuesday 5th August. All feedback will be taken account of by the Design Team in the preparation of the outline and detailed design schemes and comments can also be submitted via the Contact Page on the project website www.lowerleefrs.ie."
