South Kerry Observatory Granted Planning Permission
A proposed observatory for Geokaun mountain on Valentia Island in South Kerry has been granted planning permission.
The observatory will be located in Ireland's first dark sky reserve, with a viewing point at Feaghmaan West near the Fogher Cliffs on the lands of Bernie and Muiris O’Donoghue.
Plans for the 2.7m domed structure were submitted to Kerry County Council earlier this year.
It is understood that An Taisce was the only body to add a proposal to the plans, saying that the structure must “blend in” and will have to be “neutral” – but only in terms of colour.
