EU Propose Enforcing Insurance For Ride-On Lawnmowers
Owners of ride-on lawnmowers could face having to buy insurance, following a proposal by the European Union.
According to a report by the Irish Independent, the proposal has been made following European Court of Justice case involving a Slovenian worker who was injured after he knocked off a ladder by a reversing ride-on lawnmower.
It is understood that an insurance company has refused to cover the workers claim as the accident took place on private property.
The Irish Independent report claims that insuring ride-on lawnmowers could cost up to €125 a year. The report highlights gardening groups who oppose the proposal, saying that it is "unfair to target hobbies in a bid for extra revenue".
