New Role For Dept Of Health's Secretary General
It has been confirmed that Dr Ambrose McLoughlin, the Secretary General of the Department of Health, is to move to a new role next year, ahead of his retirement.
Dr Ambrose will support the implementation of the Health Ireland initiative, Minister for Health Leo Varadkar has said.
The move was agreed by Minister Varadkar and Dr Ambrose in the context of his decision to retire in June 2015.
Minister Varadkar said: "I look forward to continuing to work closely with Ambrose in his new role and expect to rely on his counsel and advice into the future. His extensive experience in the health arena will provide invaluable insight and guidance in progressing the achievement of the goals set out in the Healthy Ireland framework."
Dr McLoughlin commented: "It has been a privilege to serve as Secretary General in the Department of Health and I am very proud to take up this new role."

Minister for Health Leo Varadkar said the proposed Public Health (Alcohol) Bill 2015 is part of a range of measures designed to reduce alcohol consumption.
