Thousands Expected To Be Affected By Weekend Rail Strikes

Rail workers are to begin five days of strike action, with work stoppages planned for Sunday 24 and Monday 25 August.

The SIPTU and National Bus & Rail Union members are protesting over planned pay cuts.

The strikes this weekend are expected to affect "thousands of travellers", including GAA fans heading to Croke Park for the All-Ireland football semi-final on Sunday.

Iarnród Éireann has informed staff that it plans to start implementing the pay cuts from Sunday, which it says are needed to help secure the company's future.
