New Search For One Of The 'Disappeared' Underway In Co Meath
A new search for the remains of Brendan Megraw, one of the Disappeared, is underway in Oristown, Co Meath.
Mr Megraw was 23-years-old when he was abducted by the IRA from his home in west Belfast in April 1978.
Led by the Independent Commission for the Location of Victims' Remains, the new search will focus on a bog in Oristown, near Kells. Previous searches of the bog, which has been described as "vast", have been unsuccessful.
Welcoming the new search, Fianna Fáil Spokesperson on Foreign Affairs, Brendan Smith, said: "Despite the many years which have passed since Mr Megraw and others vanished, it is still heart-breaking and very distressing for the families concerned not to have finality as to what happened their loved ones or to establish where they might be located.
"I want to take this opportunity again to call on all members of the public who might have any information about the location of the people whom we know as the 'Disappeared' to contact An Garda Síochána of the Independent Commission and for once and for all give finality to the families concerned. Again, we must be mindful of the terrible wrong done to so many innocent people and the continued suffering of so many families."
