160 Jobs Axed At Three Ireland

160 jobs are to be lost at telecoms firm Three Ireland following its acquisition of O2.

85 people are expected to be made redundant from the company's head office in Dublin and a further 75 from across the retail business.

The company also said a number of fixed term contracts will not be renewed once they expire.

"These staffing changes are designed to redirect resources to enhance service and to ensure an efficient network that best serves our customer needs," said Three Ireland CEO Robert Finnegan.

"We had signalled that integrating two businesses would inevitably result in some duplication of roles, and whereas we can’t side-step that challenge, we can and will ensure that departing staff are treated fairly and generously."

The company also said 90 customer care jobs would be created over the next year, bringing staff numbers at its Limerick call centre operation to 440.
