Iarnród Éireann Strike Called Off

Strike action at Iarnród Éireann has been called off after both sides involved in the dispute came to an arrangement.

A new set of proposals were put forward at the Labour Relations Commission, which Iarnród Éireann, SIPTU and the National Bus and Rail Union (NBRU) are said to have agreed to.

The proposals will be now be put to a ballot of union members.

Tens of thousands of commuters were set to face disruption on 7, 8 and 21 September as workers planned to strike, but Iarnród Éireann has said it will now run a full service on those dates.

Minister for Transport, Paschal Donohoe, has welcomed the decision.

He said: "The fact that agreement has been reached by unions and management, which will allow the planned strike action to be averted, is most welcome.

"All parties to the dispute are aware of the financial predicament of the company and this agreement is an essential element in addressing the challenges the company face."
