Man Critical After House Fire

An investigation has been launched into a house fire in Co Westmeath that has left a man in critical condition in hospital.

It is understood that emergency services were called to a fire at a house in Battery Heights in Athlone at about 20:30 on Tuesday.

The man, aged in his 40s, is said to be in a critical but stable condition in Portiuncula Hospital.

Gardaí have appealed for any witnesses or anyone who knows anything to contact them.

Man Arrested Over Fatal House Fire Released Without Charge
A man arrested in connection with a fatal house fire in Dublin has been released without charge. A 44-year-old man died in the blaze which happened at a property on Oakland's Terrace, Rathgar, at around 3am on Tuesday, 21 August. It is understood the man had escaped from the fire before returning inside and suffered critical injuries.

Mountjoy Prison Cell Fire
A fire broke out in a cell at Dublin's Mountjoy Prison on Thursday night, according to reports. It is understood that a prisoner had set fire to a cell. However, it is believed that prison staff and fire crews were able to contain the fire quickly. No-one was injured in the incident.
