Domestic Waste Industry Needs 'Radically Shaken Up'
Ireland's domestic waste industry needs to be "radically shaken up", Minister for the Environment Alan Kelly has said.
The minister said that the industry is in need of modernisation and that he intends to end the "race to the bottom".
Mr Kelly said that current situation – waste collection being handled by the private sector and the state having no levers with which to regulate the service – is the "worst of both worlds and has to change".
He said that he was working on a series of new measure to be introduced next year to specifically tackle the issues in waste management.
