DCC Vote For Local Property Tax Reduction

Dublin City Council have voted in favour of reducing the Local Property Tax (LPT) by 15%, the maximum reduction allowable by the government.

The council debated the Sinn Féin proposed reduction on Monday night. According to reports, Dublin City Manager, Owen Keegan, had offered his own proposal of a 5% reduction per year for the next three years. Labour had also proposed a small reduction of 7.5%, saying that it feared the impact a reduction would have on services.

However, Sinn Féin Fianna Fáil and Fine Gael all voted in favour of a full reduction.

Sinn Féin will today propose a motion to reduce the Local Property Tax by 15%, calling the it "an unfair, unjust tax that puts the burden on middle and low-income households". The party has called on all Dublin City Councillors to support the motion, which will be brought in front of the council on Monday evening.

Galway City Council Reject Local Property Tax Reduction Proposal
Galway City Council has rejected a Sinn Féin proposal to reduce the Local Property Tax next year. The council discussed a Sinn Féin proposal to reduce the tax by 15% in 2015, however, following the debate, the council voted against the move. Ten councillors voted against, seven in favour and one abstained.

New Proposals For Reductions At Bausch + Lomb
