Children To Help Choose New Ombudsman

The Minister for Children and Youth Affairs, has announced that children will play an important part in recruiting a new Ombudsman for Children.

The current Ombudsman for Children, Ms Emily Logan, will vacate her position on 1 October 2014 to take up a new position as Chief Commissioner of the new Irish Human Rights and Equality Commission.

The vacant position will be filled by an open, competitive process organised by the Public Appointments Service (PAS). The process will be along similar lines as the process which resulted in the recruitment of Ms Logan as the first holder of that Office in 2003.

Children will be involved at all stages of the recruitment process including:

• the development of the person specification for the role

• the development of the advertisement for the position

• developing, conducting and evaluating a role play with candidates

• participating in the final interview and selection process.
