Bruton To Promote Jobs In South East

Minister Bruton is to travel to Waterford today (2 October) to help promote jobs in the city, and the wider South East region.

Events the Minister will attend include the launch of the Waterford Local Enterprise Office (LEO), and a visit to the Waterford Institute of Technology (WIT) to meet with TSSG staff.

Minister Bruton will also host an Action Plan for Jobs Business Forum, which will outline the Government's plan for job creation, as well as to hear from business-people and employers.

Speaking ahead of his visit, he said: "Although challenges remain, and although there will continue to be bad days as well as good days, it is important to acknowledge that we have seen major progress in employment in the South East in the past two years.

"Employment has increased by over 12,000 across the region, and the live register in Waterford has fallen by 14%. We have seen a major increase in site visits and a number of significant jobs announcements in the region over the past two years."

He added: "Two thirds of all new jobs come from start-ups, and the new local enterprise office will provide a range of important new supports for Waterford entrepreneurs and SMEs. We also have to develop the new policies and supports that help businesses, and I look forward to listening to Waterford entrepreneurs and business-people about what new steps they want to see.

"I am confident that with the right measures we can see and further much-needed progress in the region in the coming months and years."
