Up To 30,000 Protest Against Water Charges

A protest against water charges held in Dublin city centre on Saturday is estimated to have been attended by up to 30,000 people.

The protest, organised by the Right2Water Campaign, has called for the charge to be scrapped.

People are said to have travelled from across Ireland to show their opposition to the charges, which is understood to have been backed by a number of trade unions and opposition political parties.

The protest began at Parnell Square before making its way along O'Connell Street and to Dáil Éireann on Kildare Street.

The protest is understood to have passed off peacefully.
